Google and Microsoft are already making a play to have a big role in making the Semantic Web mainstream. Google have already started to expose semantic data in search results and with the acquisition of Powerset by Microsoft we can see a clear strategic intent.

A recent online survey on experiences with and expectations towards Social Software and the Semantic Web indicates that Semantic Web technologies are maturing and transcending into the corporate domain. Differing notions between application-oriented and research-oriented participants are much smaller than expected.
The Future of the Internet
As the Internet starts to establish itself into the concepts of web 2.0, we find that steps are already in place to the existence of a more established phase we are (quite originally) calling Web 3.0. The transition will now begin where: “Collaboration steps aside to Context” & “Community steps aside to Relevancy”.
